I can't seem to set colors - the presets aren't ideal for me and I like being able to fine tune what I want directly. I wish there weren't so many extra taps just to add a file, just let me tap on the file to open it and get rid of all the pointless extra modal dialogs. I wish I could drag my position in the book, only being able to select chapters the long way is irritatingly slow when searching for something. App doesn't seem to support colored text either, it's all black and white only.
It’s weird that PDF annotation/highlights and notes are not supported. Kinda basic for this kinda app
It works with PDFs but it really shines with EPUBs. I recommend trying to convert your pdfs on one of those free online converters and then uploading them to Yomu Thank you for this great app!
I am not an expert in e-readers and what bells and whistles they can offer. I wanted a straightforward application with which to read numerous ebook purchases and this provides exactly that. I experienced a bug that had more to do with an operating system nuance than Yomu itself, and the Yomu team was as professional and responsive as I could ask for. They were even able to add a workaround for the behavior in their latest update. If there were more stars to give, I'd giv'em.
Fixed price is awesome (rather than subscription) and it works so well!
Yomu is pretty much everything you’d ever want or need from an ebook reader. It’s simple, useful, and unintrusive, even on the free version. My one issue with it is the page-turning system is lacking. There’s no option to disable tap-to-turn-pages, which results in potentially a lot of unintentional page turning, and losing my place. And when I try to quickly turn pages to get back to where I was, it seems to randomly decide to skip entire chapters and worsen the issue. If these issues got smoothed over, this would be a flawless and perfect app. After reading around 15 books on it, the Pro version is definitely worth it to support the developers.
Without question the absolute best e-book reader ever made
When Marvin e-reader went away I tried all sorts of apps until I finally found Yomu. It integrates well with Calibre and is a great e-reader. Thank you!
26APR24: Remains the leader of the pack of nonDRM eBook readers. Yomu preserves all notes and highlights, but to open the last location on another iOS device is unreliable, which has dogged this app form the beginning. I find it best to use ‘HandOff’ feature, then commence reading. Buy it and support the developer. =Peace= =============================== 23JUN23: another useful incremental upgrade. Yomu is the epub reader leader at this time. ========================== 14may23. Supported and periodically improved. I’m a bit disappointed PDF support is read only. Notwithstanding, the epub utility of this app is unassailable. Remains at 5stars for developer focus on maintaining this splendid app. =Peace= =============================== Obtaining reads for the many epub/PDF, etc servers provide a treasure trove of inexhaustible material. This reader is at the top, opening multiple windows and plays well with split screen. Another update, for me, is exciting. This app is a jewel
beautiful design and ease of use. perfect
I want to like this ebook app, but one peculiarity gets in my way. If I set the margin width in two-column view, it only does the outside margins of each column, but not the space between them. It also doesn't adjust the top and bottom spacing accordingly. This app is much better for getting notes out of it than Books.app, but the readability doesn't come close, despite the larger number of settings.
With so many reader options these days, it’s hard to really know where to look and which to use. For me personally, I want something that I don’t have to fight with. Something that is easy, minimal (but looks/feels good) and just works. I lightly tried a few different readers before this and they didn’t feel good to me. That’s obviously subjective and personal, but that’s what reading is in general. Personal. I finally saw Yomu listed somewhere, gave it a shot haven’t looked back. Paid for it within a day or so (don’t run, it’s free for all the main use) and it’s been my main reader on my main devices for months and months. It’s super fast/responsive, I’ve never had a problem with sync - and while I’m writing this review I’m realizing I see it as an amazing TOOL/COMPANION APP for my workflow, not something to struggle with or something that brings me friction. For that reason, I love it. I don’t write many reviews,, but I’m taking a quick second to write this before I dive into some more programming books (always thrilling content..). Thanks Yomu team! Cheers - Random guy on the internet
05MAR25: handles epub across iOS and MacOS is a Reliable, stable reader. in all iterations/updates, the app often prevents highlighting italic text. Usually maintains location in read, but to be safe, I often place Bookmark when I anticipate shifting from one iOS device to another. Buy it. =Peace=
Great e-reader that saved me from the restrictive Kindle and iBooks ecosystems. Wish it had support to list multiple authors, as well as support for exporting highlights to Readwise.
Love the app - it’s been a long time since we had a good ebook app that was actively maintained and worked flawlessly- now we have one
This is by far the best epub reader for small screens and iOS. There are quite a few out there, but I paid for this one because it has every feature I need for reading books on a small screen.
Have never found a reader that was easier to use and presents the reader with a beautiful layout. Upgraded to the Pro version almost immediately to get the benefit of cloud storage and synching across devices. Thank you!!
Keep the app its alot easier
So happy that i voluntarily purchased the premium
I am an academic, so I read a lot of things in various formats. I like the fact that I can import something and it syncs with other devices. It is easy to use, and the developer appears to be keeping up with new versions. I've used Good Reader and iBooks (or whatever), and really prefer this. (Followup 2/6/23): I am highly dependent on this app. The sync function make my use of a number of different formats on a variety of devices (laptop, iPhone, and iPad) much easier. I believe it is totally worth even the Yomu Pro (Karma) price/donation. If I have one complaint it is that it is not possible to highlight and make notes in PDF files. I'm given to understand that this has to do with the PDF format and not the app itself. (Update 1/31/25): Still going strong. I really depend on this app. I definitely think folks should use and support it.
Great app! Any chance you can add Open Dyslexic Font? Helps me to focus.
Great reader all around. Would be nice to be able to sort books by number of pages.
The design is clean and it runs well between multiple devices; here are my a few suggestions: 1. In the reading, the text selection context menu sometimes could not pop up. 2. If jumping to some page, the bottom-left return button is only displayed in the page jumped, If turning to other page, it would disappear, which is some kind of inconvenience for returning. 3. During reading, If jumping by TOC there is no returning previous page option, which add more effect for user to return the previous page. 4. If the library is by design heavily using the tag system, then there should be a default tag for all un-tagged books for easy distinguishing. 5. It would be better for the search button in the text selection’s context menu to search the web other than search the entire book, which is used far less frequently.
I use Yomu for all of my EPUB books. It track by author, title, subject, etc. It also supports collections of any author, series, genre, etc. I’m very happy with it!
Yomu is fast and efficient. It has everything you want and nothing you don’t, plus it’s really fast. A lot of other apps I’ve tried are slow to turn pages, especially if you are scrolling through many pages. When reading non-fiction I need to revert back to other pages and move around a bit and Yomu does that with ease. One of the very few apps that leave me with zero complaints.
This app is perfect for storing so many books, comics, pdfs, and fanfic alike! The import feature makes it super easy to mass upload files unlike a lot of other e-readers I’ve used in the past. I’m a huge fan of the tagging system that allows me to add another way to categorize my files beyond the different ways the app provides. I do wish there were some more customization options available, but it’s such a non-issue that it’s not worth removing any stars.
I love this Ebook reader. If it supported TTS it would be even better because it's easier to read things.
Please make a fit to width for PDF’s so I can read on my phone better.
I hope this reader is on its way to being super popular. It works well. I would like to see more refined capabilities for sorting books but it does already have folder creation and tags. My main concern is that it apparently cannot hold more than 500 books before becoming “unstable.” I’m disappointed in that restriction and hope that future improvements will include a larger capacity.
Great for ePub, superior fonts, margins, and highlighting options are above average, but pdf support could be improved. Will up to 5 stars if ability to highlight for pdf books requiring OCR is added.
Excellent, built-in dictionary and translator. Split-screen. Bookmarks. Notes. Highlights. Formatting options. Documentation. Does everything I need for language study. I use public domain texts to study Japanese. This week Kindle stopped me from copying a phrase from a public domain, Aozora Bunko story telling me I had reached some kind of copying limit. I’ve been using Kindle for years and never encountered this problem. Sometimes I copy/paste into ChatGPT to get a lesson on grammar or vocabulary. Amazon’s boneheaded decision will undoubtedly steam other language scholars. I recommend “Yomu” to those who are similarly inconvenienced. Maybe I’ll move my entire Kindle collection here.
This app is by far the WORST app when it comes to respecting the style the publisher wants to use. It stomps on background colors on anything but "Day" theme, and it stomps all over everything else even when you put it into what IT calls the "publisher's style" mode! Even Apple Books respects the freaking border colors I put in, but not this app!
Best ebook reader by far.
I have been searching for years for a reader that gave me functionality to add and sort series and gave me the ability to add metadata. I have never found one that met my needs for I OS. This hits every single wish list item and then some. Plus it’s has an outstanding reading interface (which, let’s be honest is the whole point of a reader). This is the best eReader of the over 50+ I’ve tried. This will be my last eReader - my search is over.
I like warriors because it is cool
I ditched my e-ink reader for this app. It’s fully packed with all things i need for a reading app: good rendering, searching, highlighting and taking notes, sharing texts without some copyright texts adding on(which is great for translating),and folder + tags for organizing book. Great purchase for me. Bye bye kindle.
I don't get the hype or 4 star reviews. After using this app for close to three years, I find it difficult to use and unreliable. I absolutely wanted to like this app but I am disappointed by it in many ways. The net of it all is I found a good open source competitor app. I use that now.
I’ve been using Yomu for months and I love the interface and available features. It looks clean but is very powerful in terms of customization to your preferences. It can also be synced across devices which is perfect for me. I can pick off where I left off on any device. I can also tweak the theme for a more comfortable reading experience.
Cannot split large ordered list in a single page, always with an additional number on the right edge of the page, thus rendering is not working correctly.
Please add more highlighting color options, apple pen support for handwritten notes -for the notes that i create on page, i wished that the showed up next to the text where i made them -please allow for individual sections sorting, if i sort by series in a specific folder, it takes effect across all sections -please make progress percentage bigger
I didn't know that iCloud only has 800MB before I made the purchase. How should I contact you for a refund?
Cannot import a file, the app just stuck there with no response
I’ve tried a bunch of of e-readers, and Yomu is the best of them all! One great feature is that one license gets Yomu on my iMac, MacBook, iPhone and iPad, and keeps my books synchronized between all four! I can just pick up whichever is most convenient, and continue my reading there. Many more great features as well.
Can’t search OPDS Calibre server
This reader is fantastic. It allows for easy sorting by series and even allows you to edit the metadata in the app (basic functionality that is for some reason missing from other apps). The only bug I have run into so far is likely due to the horrendous loading times. Every time you turn to a new chapter, the page goes blank for 1-5 seconds. If you try to turn the page again during this loading time (for example if there is usually a blank page at the end of a chapter and you scroll again assuming this is that blank page), it will skip the whole next chapter. I can fit 500 copies of this book in RAM there is no reason for an eReader to have loading times other than when you first open the book at this point (I would say 2007 would have been the last time should have been an issue) There are only a few things I can think of that would make this app better, for example, multiple sorting criteria. Sorting by author and then sorting by series under each author. It would also be nice if there was a page flip animation option as that is something I miss from iBooks. And it would also be nice if there was an option for it to group books by series so they would be separated by series when scrolling through the list. The bug is the only thing keeping me from switching to this app permanently and paying for Pro.
I'm really pleased with Yomu and glad i found it after so much frustration with the clunkiness of Kindle and iBooks. Having my books all in one syncronized database with tagging and folders is exactly what i was looking for. One of the great features is being to create a link to highlighted text so I can paste the link into my note taking app. Another great feature is exporting the highlights as markdown. And being able to choose the highlight style ( underline, dotted, etc) . The only annoyance is the highlighting is sometimes wonky and only highlights a single word instead of the entire selected text - this is rare though so I can live with it. And I wished the highlighting could work for PDF type books. But overall a great app and a big thanks to the devs.
I've used this app for a few days on both my iPhone and MacBook and found no issues. I really like its iCloud sync feature (for pro users). Other apps offer their own cloud services, but I have privacy and data safety concerns with those. Additionally, it supports importing books from OPDS, which is exactly what I need. Thanks to the developer!
The only thing that would make this a 6 star app is addition of Readium LCP support. There is a Swift library for it so maybe it will happen someday soon?
